Your ROKU enabled TV supports USB devices formatted with FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, EXT2, EXT3, or HFS+. The most common reason the Roku device may fail to detect the USB drive is that USB drive requires more power than the TV can provide. In this preview of the Roku Streaming Stick 4+, Consumer Reports says this new streaming media player comes with Roku's rechargeable Voice Remote Pro, usually a 30 option. It is important to note that different drives have different power requirements – for example, some USB hard drives have an external power adapter that must be connected to a power outlet. Some USB 3.0 drives may not work if you plug them directly into the USB port of the TV. In general, USB 3.0 drives will work in USB 2.0 mode on your TV. From the menu select shuffle off which enables shuffle on. With a powerful 4K streaming player built-in, you have easy access to the most popular channels, live TV streaming services with cloud DVR options, and endless free TV, including 300+ live TV channels streaming on The Roku. Inkscape change canvas size11/14/2023 Check "Show canvas border" if not already checked, just to get some feedback. So, you've done a bunch of drawing, and now the canvas is too big/small. To switch to Espanol, select Espanol when installing.Īdjusting the Canvas Size to Fit Your Image Remember when you first installed Inkscape, and there were a bunch of language options? There isn't really a way to automate this process by using Inkscape's command-line options. Then, you can export to PDF or EPS and get the bounding box you want. If you want a tight box, select your object (with the rubber band selector) and use "Fit Page to Selection" in the "Document Properties" dialog to crop the canvas tightly around the object. Please enter your new tips and tricks here.Īs of version 0.45: when you export an object to PDF or EPS, the figure's bounding box is the canvas (probably the page) rather than a tight box around the object. Also, you can add them below and they will be collected from time to time as a part of that tutorial. If you want to contribute further, please add your tips and tricks to the SVN copy of the aforementioned. Ib extended essay11/14/2023 The body of the essay: investigating, analysing and writing If thinking around the question has started early enough, if there are too many barriers to collecting the data, it may be best to alter the question with the supervisor’s help before getting stuck in. This is fine, but it is good to state why. However, it should be noted that in some cases it is only possible to use secondary data. It is important to evaluate how the relevant data can be collected, as an essay that includes both primary and secondary research will be well supported. Students often set a question without contemplating if they are capable of answering it. For this reason the highest scoring essays usually have a research question that start with, ‘ To what extent’, ‘A study of’, ‘An analysis of’, or ‘ How far’, or could even just be a statement to analyse. Simply stating that ‘ yes, it is true’ or ‘ no, it is not true’ is insufficient. The question should not necessarily start with words like, ‘ Does’, ‘Will’ or ‘Is’. Or, they will lead to a research or study around the topic. Either they will be aimed at solving a problem, for example, through conducting an experiment. Questions will fall broadly into two categories. It is not necessary to prove the research question right – disagreeing with the initial hypothesis is perfectly fine. It is essential that the question is relevant, focused, that the answer is not a simple yes or no, but also that it is actually answerable. A wrongly formulated research question will turn this learning experience into a stressful one. Once students have chosen their topic, they need to decide on a research question. How to choose a research question for the Extended Essay The topic needs to be approved by the IBO, which the school will help with. Taking two related things they are interested in (historic events, technologies, inventions, books, poems, geographies, markets, planets, experiments and so on) and comparing them against a related concept can also be a good model to start with. Brainstorming about the subject they most enjoy or are good at, and thinking more specifically about why they enjoy it can help generate ideas. It is normal to be overwhelmed by having too much choice for the topic. A History student might look at how the rules of two different dictators can be viewed through a certain ideology. In Economics, a student might analyse the dynamics of a specific market (such as shoes, cars, finance, a food-type), against a particular theory. An English student might want to take a couple of poems and compare how the writers use a particular literary style. Examplesįor example, a Physics student watching the film ‘The Martian’, which was filmed in the Namibia desert, might have found it very surprising that Earth bears such a resemblance to Mars, and they could set about researching certain communalities and differences between these two planets. It is generally best for students to choose a topic that they are passionate about, not least because they will have to work on it for a year! One way to choose is to take something that they recently questioned. This requires that a global issue to be looked at through a local lens, for example how wider climate change, cultural, terrorism, technology or health trends are manifested in a specific context or place. The topic must be related to one of the six topics that the student is taking for their Diploma, or they can take an interdisciplinary ‘world studies’ issue that relates to two of their subjects. Approaching the IB Extended Essay How to choose a topic for the Extended Essay The Essay should be no longer than 4000 words, with a short viva voce at the end. The programme allows for one draft to be handed in to the supervisor for feedback, and then the second version is the final version. They will meet regularly with them to help structure their research questions and guide them in writing the paper. They will need a supervisor (one of the teachers at their school). Students usually start working on their essay in the second term of the first year of their IB Diploma Programme, around January time. The essay also enables students to acquire some of the skills that are essential for researching and writing university Bachelor and Master theses. The aim of the EE is to provide students with the opportunity to research a topic of their interest, and showcase their knowledge and reading beyond the classroom syllabus. The Extended Essay (known as the ‘EE’), together with CAS and TOK, is a core component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and is mandatory for all students, regardless of the subjects they are taking.

Project runway model mimi11/14/2023 I was actually pretty shocked because I thought that the judges would see and give a nod to the innovation that I had. When the other designers were being critiqued, Mila said, “I really did think: Okay, maybe I have a chance here being safe. That’s what creativity is about.”Īs to her competition, Mila said, “call it old school, but I just-I’m gonna say it again, and I’m gonna stick to my convictions: I don’t agree with hot glue guns.” One can make their inspiration as specific or as vague as they want. Mila told me that Nina’s comment that her inspiration was “vague … was kind of diminishing my personal inspiration, which I really don’t agree with. And movement was really important to me.”ĭuring the episode, on the runway, judge Nina Garcia criticized the point of view, saying, “I don’t know why you did it.” What does whimsy mean to her?” That meant “imagining myself as a little girl skipping through the through the grass or through the garden. “I really did want to push myself outside my comfort zone and use color, not just black and white.”Īt the toy store, Mila said she had the idea to “bring the inner child out to play. “Given my own personal growth, it’s like, Okay, Mila, let’s like try to embrace whimsy, and let’s see what that means to me,” she said. In other words, these kinds of challenges haven’t gone well for her. That caused her to think back to the circus challenge, which was the dress she remade in episode one. Mila told me she was worried at the start of the episode that sent her home: “whimsical is not usually how I described my work.” Mila Hermanovski and her model during judging of the Project Runway 20 unconventional materials challenge, which used toys from FAO Schwarz (Photo by: Zach Dilgard/Bravo) (Photo by: Zach Dilgard/Bravo) While those are “not always exemplary of everyday challenges in life,” she said it “sharpens one’s skills of problem-solving on the fly.” What happened in the unconventional materials challenge? Project Runway’s challenges themselves offer an opportunity, she said. Certainly if I won, that might have changed things a little bit!” Mila said that when producers asked, it was “an easy yes,” and she had “no expectations” but thought “maybe something will come of it.” She added that “it might reframe how I look at what’s next for me, or maybe there would be an opportunity that would arise from it. I thought I closed that chapter of my life.” “I just found myself asking the question: Where am I going? What am I doing? What’s gonna be most fulfilling for me? I was in a little bit of a rut, and the universe give me a sign: Project Runway came knocking at my door again, which I never ever could have expected. But I found myself at this juncture where I’m just like, What am I doing? This started during COVID.” “I’ve been in the entertainment industry for over 25 years and had a line. “I’ve had a long and successful career,” Mila told me. In one word, the answer has to do with the pandemic. Mila on Project Runway 20 episode 3, with her model wearing her unconventional materials outfit in the background (Photo by Zach Dilgard/Bravo)

Natural squirrel predators11/14/2023 This time of year, when the cold of winter sets in, they prefer cavity nests in trees where they will be better protected from the cold. Abandoned woodpecker holes are often used, in particular ones with entrance holes less than three or four inches wide-larger entrances allow raccoons, a common predator, entry. According to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Service, the home range of a gray squirrel varies from one to 25 acres depending upon the habitat and food availability. However, most gray squirrels average a mere 160 feet in their normal daily movements. These are generally occupied by just one, or sometimes two, squirrels during the milder months. While squirrel-watching the other day, I realized I have no idea where these squirrels are when they are not at the bird feeder. A walk through the pine-dominated woods behind my house is generally dominated by the chatter of red squirrels, alarmed by my presence. But where are the gray squirrels? Gray squirrels prefer hardwoods, and will make leaf nests (called dreys) in the late summer and early fall out of leafy branches (the leaves help shed rain) and lined with insulating mosses, shredded bark and grass. Looking for something unusual?: Birders say you should look for these feathered friends in the weeks ahead Gray squirrels have a more diverse food supply and store nuts and seeds in dispersed locations and so therefore need to be able to travel about the woods more freely than the pine-nut hoarding red squirrels who cache large numbers of pinecones in central locations that must be defended. I can recognize at least three different gray squirrels who visit my feeder. One is missing part of its tail, the other has a notch in its ear and looks a little mangy, the third is the plump healthy-looking one. They seem to get along fairly well and will often plunder bird feeders located just a couple feet apart with no apparent conflict. This fits with what is known of their behavior. They aren’t as territorial as our other local squirrel - the red squirrel. It is believed that this might have something to do with their food preferences. They are also both predators and prey. While we think of rodents, like squirrels, as being primarily herbivores, according to the USFWS their diet also includes numerous insects, amphibians such as peepers and red-backed salamanders, and, amazingly, birds! The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) site lists cardinals and bald eagles among the prey of gray squirrels - it turns out that gray squirrels are voracious predators of both eggs and nestlings. In turn, squirrels feed a variety of suburban predators - from foxes, weasels and bobcats to hawks and owls. It is not possible to distinguish between red and grey squirrel dreys. Our backyards benefit from their presence. Squirrels help control plant populations by eating seeds and fruits. It is easier to observe these in winter when there are fewer leaves on the trees. 30cm across, at least 6m above the ground) of twigs and leaves which are usually located in the fork of the branches, close to the trunk. Nests: The nests of red squirrel (and grey squirrel) are known as dreys. By comparison, mice and voles gnaw holes in nuts in a characteristic pattern. They prise the nut apart after making an incision at the top. They are small, round pellet shapes (0.5-0.8cm long and 0.5cm thick).įeeding signs: Squirrels, much like birds, split nuts open at the top, leaving jagged edges and irregular pieces. This does depend on their diet, especially true if diet includes pine cones. They can be dark grey or black and are often sweet smelling. Forefoot width is 2.5cm and length 3.5cm and hind foot width is 3.5cm and length 4.5cm.ĭroppings: Droppings are usually found near trees. Can have red tinge to fur.ĭownload a printable field sign guide here!įootprints: Tracks can be seen in mud (see photo), sand and snow.
